  • Implemented algorithm of smart light source detection
  • Auto-adjustment of the appropriate control mode to connected load
  • Active power and energy metering functionality
  • Soft start function
  • Memory of the last lighting level settings
  • Works with various types of switches – momentary, toggle, three-way, etc.
  • Active element: semiconductor electronic switch
  • To be installed in wall switch boxes of dimensions allowing for installation, conforming to provisions of applicable regulations
  • FGD-212 is an extension unit

Manuals and Guides

Frequently Asked Questions

Q

What is a Dimmer 2 module?

A

The FIBARO Dimmer 2 is designed to control different light sources in 2 or 3 wire connection. It can switch or dim connected light source remotely using Z-Wave wireless protocol or through the wall switch connected directly to it.

Q

What is the maximum load that can be connected to the Dimmer 2?

A

It depends on the type of load:

  • resistive loads (conventional incandescent and halogen light sources) – max. 250W
  • resistive-capacitive loads (fluorescent tube lamp, electronic transformer, LED) – max. 200VA
  • resistive-inductive loads (ferromagnetic transformers) – max. 220VA

Q

What is association functionality?

A

Association allows you to control two or more Z-Wave devices from one module. Association works always only from buttons (S1 and S2).

Q

Is it possible to control two separated outputs from one Dimmer 2?

A

No – the Dimmer 2 has only one physical output (controlled from S1). To control two circuits you will need to connect another Dimmer. However there is possibility to control two or more Dimmers or Relay Switches from one module using association.

Q

How can I use the S1 and the S2 connectors?

A

Switch connected to the S1 terminal is a master switch. It triggers the basic functionality of the Dimmer 2 (turning the light on/off, dimming) and begins the learning mode (Add/Remove). The switch connected to the S2 terminal is an optional switch and pushing it without changing the configuration parameters will not affect the status of the device. Functionality of the switches can be reversed by adjusting parameter 22.

Q

What type of switches are compatible with the Dimmer 2?

A

The Dimmer 2 supports every switch. It can be mono-stable (push button switch), bi-stable, or roller blind switch.

Q

Where can I change switch type?

A

By altering the parameter 20 value.

Q

I have a light source that cannot be dimmed. Can I control it by the the Dimmer 2? What parameter should I modify?

A

Yes – you can control such lights and there is no need to change anything. The Dimmer 2 will automatically identify the connected light source during the calibration procedure.

Q

I have connected low power LED light to the Dimmer 2 and now I cannot turn it off completely.

A

Ensure you connect your Dimmer 2 to the separate Neutral wire (3-wire connection diagram) or to use the Bypass 2 (FGB-002) module.

Q

Connected low power LED is flickering all the time. What can I do?

A

We suggest you use the FIBARO Bypass 2 (FGB-002) module for low powered light sources, such as e.g. single 0.5 Watt LED.

Q

Can I connect the Dimmer 2 to Halogen 12V GU10 bulbs with transformer?

A

Yes, the Dimmer 2 guarantees high compatibility and may work with many types of light sources.

Q

What kind of transformers are recommended for working with the Dimmer 2?

A

It is possible to use either electronic or ferromagnetic transformers.

Q

What technology does your Dimmer 2 use? Is it leading edge or trailing edge?

A

FIBARO Dimmer 2 automatically sets the correct operating mode (leading edge/trailing edge) depending upon the type of connected light source.

Q

Can I use bi-stable switches in 2-way connection?

A

Yes, it is possible to use 2 bi-stable switches or any number of mono-stable switches. Only roller blind switches are not allowed in such configuration.

Q

Connected light source flickers occasionally. How to avoid it?

A

Occasional flickering of the lighting could be because of ripple-control signals from the electricity supplier. The occurrence and magnitude of this effect depends on the country, region and time of the day. The effect is more frequent in 2-wire installation, on low dimming levels and with LED light sources. It is suggested to use 3-wire installation with conventional light sources (halogen, incandescent).

Q

My lights tend to spontaneously change their light level in 2-wire installation.

A

Some capacitive lights (e.g. dimmable LEDs) are susceptible to flickering at some levels in 2 wire connection. Dimmer 2 uses automatic detection of such events and corrects the light level to prevent the flickering. In countries using ripple-control, the correction may cause changes in the brightness levels. If this occurs, it is necessary to disable the correction or adjust the time of correction for flickering loads by modifying the value of parameter 38 (parameter available only in firmware 3.5 or higher).
