For most radiators and convectors

Standard Radiators

Most radiators have two or three panels (type 22 or 33) with a gap of more than 7 cm. The SpeedComfort can be fitted at the bottom of the radiator in the gap between the panels. The magnetic slides will automatically find the iron panels.

Narrow(er) radiators

If you have radiators with less than 7 cm of space between the panels, pull the magnetic slides out of the housing and put them back in place with the magnet facing upwards. The blocks opposite the magnetic slides now only have a cosmetic function and can be removed. The SpeedComfort will now hang tightly under the radiator.

Single radiators

If you have a radiator with one panel, pull the magnet slides out of the housing and put them back in place with the magnets facing upwards on one side. With the magnets against the back of the radiator, the SpeedComfort hangs tightly underneath.

Convector of convector ducting

If you have a convector or convector ducting, you will find four feet at the bottom of the housing. Place the feet in the specially-made holes, with the foot in the longitudinal direction. You can place the SpeedComfort both on top of the convector block and below.

Different situations

If you have old-fashioned louvre radiators, you can hang SpeedComforts underneath with wires or tie wraps. You can also use the feet to put them on the ground underneath the radiator – it’s not fancy, but it works… And if there’s not enough room for SpeedComforts at the bottom of your radiators, you can also place them on top. Many radiators have a grille, under which they are hardly noticeable.

How do SpeedComforts work?

Automatic operation

SpeedComforts have an external thermostat switch.  This is placed near the hot water supply using magnets. When the radiator or convector gets to 33 degrees close to the thermostat switch, the fans will turn on automatically. As a result, the radiator/convector moves heat more quickly from the radiator into the room. The room is brought to the desired temperature more quickly, and the heat is also better distributed.
The heat from the radiators/convectors is also distributed around the room for a much longer time. SpeedComforts only stop when the temperature of the radiator/convector falls below 25 degrees.

How many do you need?

Rule of thumb for the number of SpeedComforts to be used

One SpeedComfort moves approximately 30 m3 of air per hour. The air in a room should preferably circulate once per hour.
Calculation example: a living room measuring 5 metres wide, 8 metres long and 3 metres high has a capacity of 120 m3. In this case, a Trio set with an Extension set, or two Duo sets are required.
In a bedroom, one SpeedComfort (a Monoset) will usually be more than enough.

Particular circumstances

Radiators often have a hard time heating a room. Maybe there is a sofa in front of it, a wide windowsill above it, or it is hidden behind a decorative casing. In these cases, SpeedComforts provide extra help because, despite these obstructions, they push the warm air into the room.

Linking multiple SpeedComforts

Keep in mind that you need an average length of 50 cm for each SpeedComfort. Therefore, on a radiator/convector of 1.60 m, you can accommodate three.  You can connect up to 20 SpeedComforts, using one adapter. Expansion sets are available, in addition to complete packages. These always include a 30-cm connection cable.

How much noise does the SpeedComfort make?

A

The noise level of a SpeedComfort is below 20 dB(A), a noise level lower than rustling leaves.  The power of the SpeedComfort is very little that no contact noise is produced. However, each radiator makes its “own noise”. The same applies, to a lesser extent, to convectors. In exceptional cases this can be experienced as a mild issue.

How much energy does the SpeedComfort use?

A

The fans are extremely economical. Based on 1,000 running hours per year, a SpeedComfort consumes less than £0.13 on electricity in a year. The adapter is loss-free, which means you do not consume power if the SpeedComfort is not working.

Will one SpeedComfort device be sufficient?

Bear in mind you need an average length of 50 cm to put a SpeedComfort in place. Therefore, three are required for a radiator/convector of 1.60 m. You can connect up to 20 SpeedComforts, using one adapter. Expansion sets can be found here (included a 30 cm connection cable). To bridge the distance between radiators/convectors, there are 0.60 m and 1.20 m extension cables .
In order to make optimum use of the possibilities offered by the SpeedComforts to save energy and increase comfort, it is important to select the right radiators/convectors in the home. These are usually found in the living areas.

Use the SpeedComfort as many times as required, depending on the length of the radiator/convector. They can be used with a 30 cm connection cable

How does the SpeedComfort work?

A

Is it complicated to install?

A

No.  Placing the SpeedComforts is very simple, thanks to the magnetic slides. With a small adjustment you can make them suitable for most radiators and convectors.

In radiators with two or three plates and a minimum of 7cm between the plates, you can place the SpeedComforts with the magnetic slides, like they are placed when they first come out of the packaging. The magnets ‘click’ against the iron of the radiator.

Inside the packaging is also an external thermo sensor switch, which you can also place with magnets. You can place this close to the side of the warm water supply.

The adapter fits on one side only, together with the thermo sensor. Choose to place this side of the SpeedComfort closest to the socket. If you have a duo or trio set, then use the included connection cable(s) to connect the SpeedComforts.

IMPORTANT: The side of the SpeedComfort that is entirely open is the bottom. Make sure you place the SpeedComfort with the right side above. Otherwise the hot airflow will be counteractive, instead of reinforced.

If there is less than 7cm space between the plates of the radiator, then pull the magnetic slides out of the SpeedComfort, turn them with the magnets above and slide them back. You can slide the magnets inside so that they fit between narrow radiator plates. Now you can hang the SpeedComfort below the radiator.

For a single plate radiator you can also turn the magnetic slides, only with all four magnets on the same side.

For placing the SpeedComfort in a convector you can find four small legs on the bottom of the SpeedComfort, which you can place in the holes on the end of the SpeedComfort.

You can place the SpeedComfort above or under the radiator.


Q

Does the SpeedComfort always have to be mounted under the radiator?

A

The SpeedComforts have been developed to be placed out of sight, at the bottom of a radiator. However, the SpeedComforts function just as well if they are placed on the top, between the panels of the radiator. Radiators often have a grid on the top, under which the SpeedComforts can be hidden from view. Keep in mind, however, that the higher temperature at the top will affect the lifespan of the fans.


Q

Does the SpeedComfort fit on all radiators?

A

SpeedComforts offer a solution for most radiators.

Old panel radiators sometimes have no convection fins between the panels and are not very suitable. Old, cast iron radiators are not suitable for the SpeedComfort.


Q

Can I save even more energy by hydraulically ballancing my central heating?

A

Yes, quite a lot in fact. The majority of the heating installations in the Netherlands are not propertly balanced. On average it uses much more energy than actually needed.

Installers usually automatically set your central heating temperature on standard factory settings: 80-85 degrees. Manually lowering the setpoint temperature to 60 degrees will result in optimum energy efficiency. This is similar to hr-boilers.


Q

My rooms are not heating up quicker despite using the SpeedComfort

A

Most likely the setpoint of your water temperature is too high. If the temperature is 80 degrees or higher, the natural hot air stream will be high. That sounds right, but has several downsides:

  1. If the thermostat switches off because the set temperature has been reached, the radiator is still very hot, causing the room temperature to rise another 2-3 degrees.
  2. As a “solution” to this problem, the thermostat is usually set to 18 degrees. This means the room also has to cool down to an uncomfortably cold temperature below 18 degrees.
  3. If the water from the radiator returns to the central heating boiler at 60 degrees, a lot of energy is wasted unnecessarily.
  4. High air temperatures cause strong air streams in the room, causing more dust and fine particles to flow through the room. Therefore, if the settings remain on a high water temperature, you wil still be wasting energy, even with SpeedComfort!

The primary goal of SpeedComfort is to lower the central heating temperature. Meaning:

  1. Greater comfort in your home. The speedcomfort ventilator draws heat from your radiator, heating the room quicker and more evenly.
  2. Save energy. SpeedComfort allows you to lower the water temperature of your central heating, easily saving 10% of your energy use

Q

How sustainable is the SpeedComfort?

A

All the parts in the SpeedComfort are reusable. The life expectancy of an entire SpeedComfort is 40 years.


Q

My SpeedComfort is not working. What's the problem?

A
  1. The SpeedComfort will only work (automatically) when the radiator is warmer than 33 degrees at the thermostat switch. If you operate the adapter in the SpeedComfort without the thermostat switch, you can test the SpeedComfort. The fans will then start to run. If you want to test the thermostat switch, you can do so by holding a heated knife against the switch.
  2. Are you sure the power outlet the SpeedComforts are connected to is working?
  3. Are you sure the plug is plugged in properly and that the plug is fully plugged into the SpeedComfort?
  4. Is there a good contact between the thermostat switch and the radiator panel?
  5. Is the temperature of the radiator close to the thermostat switch (at least) 33 degrees? If not, bleeding and/or balancing can solve this problem.

Q

Does the SpeedComfort work with a radiator or convector under a windowsill?

A

A windowsill restricts the warm air flowing through a radiator or convector from rising. The SpeedComforts “force” that airflow along the windowsill. In this situation, the SpeedComforts will definitely deliver added value.

Does the SpeedComfort also help reduce CO2 emissions?

A

By reducing your gas consumption you will also reduce the CO2 emission. The SpeedComfort can help you to save up to 22% on gas consumption.
